ELAR - This six weeks we will be learning about adverbs. At the end of this unit, students will be able to differentiate verbs vs. adverbs. Our Skills Reader this six weeks is about The War of 1812, students will complete reading comprehension tests over The War of 1812. Lastly we will be working on building sentences. Adding detail and information to sentences. Any extra time during the end of an ELAR lesson is used to meet AR goals or meeting Lexia minutes.
Mathematics - We are finishing up our unit on time. After time, we will be moving onto how to read pictographs. By the end of this unit students should be able to read bar graphs,depict pictographs, and be able to make their own graphs. Once we have completed the pictograph until, we will be reviewing all that we have learned in second grade and work on anything students are struggling with to ensure they are ready for the third grade.
Social Studies - We will be finishing our Texas Studies Weekly over technology. How technology has evolved from vehicles, telephones, education, and much more. After we finish the unit, we will be circling back to learning about the 13 colonies. What were the 13 colonies, where they are located on a map, and fun facts about the 13 colonies.
Handwriting - Students are writing prayers in cursive, practicing on letters and combinations of letters with the undercurve, undercurve-slant, downcurve, downcurve-slant, overcurve, and overcurve-slant. Our goal is to be able to write a cursive prayer while not looking at the cursive alphabet.
Spelling - Students will be given a new spelling list each Monday. Students now have twenty spelling words they will need to study each week. Each Friday students will take their spelling test. Once a week they will be given an allotted class time to review their spelling words with a partner or individually.
