ELAR—We will continue practicing our reading comprehension skills. Our main focus these six weeks will be writing. Our first writing activity will be learning to write a letter. We will continue practicing writing stories, making sure papers have characters, a setting, a main idea, a beginning, a middle, and an end. Any extra time during the end of an ELAR lesson is used to meet AR goals or Lexia time.
Mathematics - We will begin learning about money. Reviewing how much each coin is worth. Learning to add and subtract paper bills and coins. Learning where to put a decimal with money with 2, 3, 4, and 5 digit numbers. We will be beginning to describe multiplication and division.
Social Studies—We will begin learning about Geography, including how to read a map, identify landforms, and identify bodies of water. We will also learn about different countries and identify continents.
Handwriting - Students are now writing words in cursive, practicing letters and combinations of letters with the undercurve, undercurve-slant, downcurve, downcurve-slant, overcurve, and overcurve-slant. Our goal is to know the entire cursive alphabet while writing words without being able to review how a cursive letter looks.
Spelling - Students will continue to be given a new spelling list each Monday. Students now have fifteen spelling words each week. Each Friday students will take their spelling test. Once a week they will be allowed to review their spelling words with a partner or individually.
