St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School 1st grader Bree Pollard, daughter of Turner and Sarah Pollard, had a great idea: She wanted to have a bake sale to benefit the St. Anthony Walnut Tree Tuition Assistance Fund. So armed with flour, sugar, a little help from mom and a desire to help others, Bree baked cupcakes, cake balls and cookies to sell after church on Sunday. After introducing herself during Mass and advertising her delicious wares, she set up shop and because of the generosity of St. Anthony parishoners, sold out within minutes. All tallied, Bree baked her way to raising $500 to donate to the tuition assistance fund.
The Walnut Tree Tuition Assistance Fund was established in 2008 by the Parish of St. Anthony to help insure that those with the desire but not necessarily the financial means might benefit from the blessings of Catholic education at St. Anthony School: academic excellence, moral and spiritual formation, and a Christ-centered environment that nurtures the whole person. It is named after the legendary walnut tree in which St. Anthony of Padua sought shelter, refuge and retreat during the last years of his life.
