Religion Class Happenings
1st/2nd Grade - We kicked off the year by learning about the mystery of the Holy Trinity and how each person of the trinity is unique and plays a special role in our lives. The three persons of the Trinity are united by love in one God. God the Son, Jesus, is our savior. God the Holy Spirit,is our teacher and guide. We learned that God the Father is our Creator and He made us out of His great love for us. He made us in His image with 3 unique abilities: to think (intellect), to choose (free will), and to love! Since God loves us so much we are asked to love Him in return AND love one another.
3rd Grade - 3rd grade dove deeper into lessons on the Holy Trinity by exploring the role of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit more deeply. We studied the Apostles Creed and the different church teachings we profess our belief in when we say the creed together at Mass. We explored the two natures of Jesus as fully human and fully God as well as the Kingdom of God on earth. Some questions we tried to answer included: What is God’s Kingdom like? How do we tell someone about God’s Kingdom?
4th Grade - We explored the goodness of God through creation remembering that WE are part of God’s good creation. We are created in God’s image with unique abilities. We can practice holy habits (Virtues) to grow in our love for God and others. Growing in love for God and in virtue helps us use our conscience to make good moral choices. As we learned about the communion of saints we learned that they are like a crowd at a race or sporting event, cheering us on to victory in Jesus.
5th/6th Grade - This year is all about the 7 sacraments of the Catholic Church so we began the year by talking about all the ways that we represent the invisible parts of our lives with visible signs. Our human nature needs physical elements so all 7 sacraments have something physical or visible that points to the invisible graces received. We mark special and significant moments in our lives through special parties, meals, or ceremonies. The sacraments are ways of marking important moments in our life in Jesus.
All classes will spend November talking about the Communion of Saints and how we are all called to be saints. We will learn what a vocation is and the different vocations we might be called to by God.
The month of December will be spent learning about the Advent and Christmas seasons while we wait in joyful anticipation for Jesus to make his home among us!
